Mobile Surveillance Units

Securing large critical infrastructure facilities, which may cover large areas of open terrain, or areas that do not allow true line of sight coverage presents a unique challenge to security managers.  Providing complete coverage may prove too costly to maintain or impractical to provide proper sensor coverage.  An effective solution to this is to apply two different types of sensor coverage. The first is to use standard fixed sensors, such as long range cameras - stabilized, thermal and IR for wide range detection and observation or RADAR to track movement.  The second type is a mobile platform outfitted with similar stabilized cameras and/or RADAR to provide much finer granularity and better “eyes on” capability to identify objects of interest.

4D’s Mobile Surveillance Unit (MSU) serves this purpose.  Built on a commercially available heavy duty “pick-up” truck chassis, the MSU is deployable in the field to tackle a wide variety of terrains and harsh environments and designed to operator in the field for a full 24 hours.

The Mobile Surveillance Unit functions as an extension of fixed surveillance sensors by providing the non-line of sight coverage to specific areas.  Additionally, the MSU has the capability to serve as a complete stand alone surveillance system rapidly deployable to the field.

Externally, the MSU is designed to “fit-in” with normal traffic resembling a standard non-descript heavy duty work vehicle, and not a highly sophisticated electronic monitoring system.  The MSU comes equipped with a telescoping heavy duty 6 meter (19 feet) mast capable of supporting sensor payload of 90kg (198 lbs) to support sensor in high wind environments.   Operational ambient temperatures are 0° C to +55° C and 95% relative humidity.  Sophisticated vehicle leveling system to provide operational stability.  The sensor payload includes stabilized electro-optic day/night cameras and RADAR systems to permit object:

  • Acquisition – finding objects

  • Assessment – identifying objects and defining the level of interest

  • Tracking – tracking the object to understand the intentions

  • Antenna – radio link back to home base

Under the hood” features back-up engine batteries, redundant power generators, redundant cooling system and easy transition from on to off road operation.   All systems are monitored and controlled form the on-board CCU – Central Command Unit.

The Mobile Surveillance Unit is intended to operate with by a single driver/ operator; however, the MSU is designed to accommodate driver and a system operator.   Other features include WisdomMobile to provide local command and control in support of “home base” security operations.

The Mobile Surveillance Unit provides security system mangers with a field deployable mobile sensor platform to provide localized “eye-on” surveillance for large open terrain with difficult and or non-existing line of sight areas  that are impractical to cover with fixed surveillance sensors.
